Removing Unwanted Hair Growth

Unwanted facial or body hair is a common dermatological complaint with numerous causes, including heredity, medications, disease, hormonal imbalance and stress. Numerous patients have unwanted hair that they want removed. Unwanted hair can make you feel self-conscious about your appearance especially if it is excessive, and can be psychologically embarrassing and frustrating. Fortunately, there are methods to treat unwanted hair growth anywhere on your face or body.

Step 1

Consult a dermatologist and undergo photoepilation to remove unwanted hair growth permanently. This popular non-invasive cosmetic procedure is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It involves introducing pulses of light to destroy your hair follicles individually You will need to undergo 3 to 5 sessions to ensure that the results are permanent.

Step 2

Consult your doctor about using the prescription cream Vaniqa (eflornithine HCl) to stop unwanted hair growth permanently. Your hair follicles need an enzyme called ornithine decarboxylase for hair to grow. Vaniqa stops hair growth by blocking this enzyme. Vaniqa doesn't work instantly and it will take 3 to 4 months before you can see results.

Step 3

Electrolysis will stop unwanted hair growth permanently. This cosmetic procedure involves inserting a thin, fine wire into your hair follicles. A low electric current then is introduced to destroy the hair roots. Any loose hair is removed manually using tweezers. This procedure usually is performed by a dermatologist, or at a health spa or hair salon. However a beautician will be less skilled or unable to treat any skin irritations that develop.
