When Weight Watchers started in the early '60s, its founders created a way for people to lose weight other that simply counting calories. Determine the famous Weight Watchers points system using a formula of calories, fat and fiber. Knowing how many points you are allowed per day, based on your weight, is essential for calculating a points budget with Weight Watchers.

Step 1

Weigh yourself on a regular bathroom scale.

Step 2

Determine how many points you should consume per day based on your weight. If you weight less than 150 lbs., you should consume 20 points per day. If you weight between 151 and 174 lbs., you should consume 22 points per day. If you weight between 175 and 199 lbs., you should consume 24 points per day. If you weight between 200 and 224 lbs., you should consume 26 points per day. If you weight between 225 and 250 lbs., you should consume 28 points per day. If you weight between 251 and 275 lbs., you should consume 30 points per day. If you weight between 276 and 300 lbs., you should consume 31 points per day. If you weight between 301 and 325 lbs., you should consume 33 points per day. If you weigh more than 325 lbs., you should consume 34 points per day.

Step 3

Calculate various foods' point values and plan out your diet for each day. To determine how many points each food has, look at a food index on the brochure that Weight Watchers provides you with.

According to HealthyWeightForum.org, the food point formula is:

Points = (Calories/50) + (Fat grams/12) - (*Up to 4 dietary fiber grams/5)

* For this part of the formula, use your number of dietary fiber grams or 4, whichever is lower. Only 4 grams of fiber count towards the points formula.
