4 Ways to Transform the Vital Being in Integral Yoga

1. Vital Body Kosha

Yoga teaches that man has five beings or bodies called the "koshas." These beings include the physical, emotional, mental, knowledge and causal or etheric. The Vital being is the emotional or "soul." Emotions influence people strongly for good or negative. This being also known as the Pranayama kosha is a key being for transformation in yoga.

2. Command the Emotions

The Vital being is located right beneath the physical being in another plane, yogic teaching explains. This is the being of connection with all living things. Transform this component of self to the positive and you will feel you can do all things, that nothing is impossible. This is a lifetime goal. Emotions are the most challenging part of self and the most difficult to control, discipline and transform. But if the "soul" or Vital being is not brought under control it can create great havoc. This is clearly seen in emotions gone haywire in people and nations.

3. Eat Right and Speak Right

Eating right can help transform the Vital being. Healthy food balances the body, brings harmony, physical strength and a strong immune system. Integral yoga followers are vegetarians. Almost as important as good food is uplifting positive words. Words directly lead to positive or negative feelings. Observe the words you speak and how it affects emotion in you and others. Right words will transform the Vital being.

4. Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga is practiced daily in Integral Yoga. This physical exercise leads to healthy emotions. A healthy physical body translates into positive emotion, a healthy Vital being. Mastery and control over the physical brings mastery to emotions and thought, as thought is also influenced by the physical body. Through hatha yoga postures (asanas) and proper breathing (pranayama), the Vital being is transformed.
