3 Ways to Participate in the Deaflympics

1. Be Eligible

The Deaflympics offers exciting sports competitions for deaf athletes across the world. Enter the Deaflympics and display your superior athletic ability in five winter sports and more than twenty summer sports. Unlike other competitions for people with disabilities, the Deaflympics is organized completely by the deaf community, for the deaf community. Sports are modified so that hearing is not required. This helps to level the playing field. Compete in the Deaflympics if you have a pure tone hearing loss of at least 55 dB in your better ear across a three-tone frequency. This includes the frequencies of 500, 1000 and 2000 hertz. Athletes cannot use amplification devices such as hearing aids or cochlear implants during competitions. Prove your eligibility and submit your audiogram to the National Deaf Sport Federation.

2. Heat Up the Competition

Compete in the Summer Deaflympics Games in a wide selection of team and individual sports. Team sports include basketball, handball, football, water polo and volleyball. Individual sports include athletics, shooting, beach volleyball, judo, cycling road, bowling, swimming, orienteering, badminton, karate, taekwondo, table tennis, freestyle wrestling, tennis and Greco-Roman wrestling. Similar to the traditional Olympic Games, thousands of deaf athletes aim to qualify to compete in the Summer Deaflympics, which are held every four years in different international locations. Enjoy friendly competition and experience invaluable social and multi-cultural interactions with the global deaf community at the Summer Deaflympics Games.

3. Cool Down with Winter Sports

Participate in the Winter Deaflympics Games in traditional winter sports competitions, held internationally every four years. The Winter Deaflympics Games offer five sports for competition. Cool down in the ice and compete in Alpine skiing, curling, cross-country skiing, snowboarding and ice hockey.
