Jogger strollers or baby joggers, are ideal for active parents who want to get their workouts in without sacrificing parent-child bonding time. Most joggers feature mini bicycle-style tires, which, according to the American Chiropractic Association, provide babies with the smoothest possible ride and give parents better maneuvering control. You have numerous choices when shopping for a baby jogger, but some models far outperform others and earn consistently high ratings from parenting magazines and consumer information websites.
B.O.B. Ironman
Consistent excellent reviews place the Ironman among the top baby joggers currently on the market. An aluminum alloy frame forms this stroller's foundation and 16-inch high-pressure tires, an adjustable suspension system and a partially reclining padded seat completes the model. The Ironman's light weight, a mere 21 pounds, and smooth ride make it an ideal choice for serious runners and joggers. Despite the many praises it earned from Cookie Magazine contributor Catherine Coreno and its appearance on Fit Pregnancy's list of favorite products for 2009, the Ironman is not without its weaknesses. In its analysis of the jogger, Consumer Search notes the Ironman doesn't perform well indoors or in crowded settings.
Baby Jogger Performance Single
Although this baby jogger comes with a high price tag, it stands out among similar strollers. Its large, 20-inch wheels, shock absorbers and adjustable sun canopy ensure baby a smooth ride even over long stretches of hilly terrain. The Performance Single offers parents who prefer distance running with a durable stroller that's easy to push over long stretches of road or sidewalk. Cookie Magazine praises the jogger for its durable construction, and Consumer Search lists it among the top five baby joggers on the market. The only drawback reviewers consistently cite is the stroller's cumbersome size, which means it doesn't travel well.
Schwinn Free Wheeler Jogging Stroller
A swiveling front wheel gives this jogger a zero-degree turn radius, which makes it easier to navigate through tight places. The stroller earns high marks for durability and ease of use from Coreno, who also applauds the jogger's rear-wheel suspension system, the child safety harness and the ease with which to stroller folds for storage. Weighing in at 24 pounds, the Free Wheeler isn't the lightest baby jogger on the market, but neither is it the heaviest. It can carry children weighing up to 50 pounds, which means you'll likely get many years of use out of the stroller before your child outgrows it. Although the jogger counts its swiveling front wheel as an asset, it does make jogging a little more difficult; even in the fixed position the wheel angles slightly. This causes the jogger to drift to one side as you run.
