3 Ways to Refill the Fridge for Dr. Oz's You on a Diet

1. Go a Little at a Time

With Dr. Oz's You on a Diet plan, you go slowly into new food arenas, teaching your body to learn to like and crave natural foods again. Select a few must have items from the first week's menu and go shopping. Don't make the list especially long and don't worry about the variety, it will come. In the beginning, you are retraining your body to like the foods that nourish it properly, so this means leaving out the refined and processed stuff. Take it one step at a time and buy one kind of raw nuts, a selection of a few different fresh fruits and vegetables. As you go through the diet plan, gradually add more whole raw food to your repertoire. This allows your body to adjust to the new foods and keeps things like food allergies to a minimum as well.

2. Stock Up on the Essentials

Since Dr. Oz starts his diet out with a small variety of foods, you can keep your food budget down as well. You can stock up on things like frozen vegetables when they are on sale. If you have a club store membership, you might even want to buy things like eggs, apples, carrots and nuts at the club store, especially since you'll be using a lot of these items. Some club stores now even carry organic versions of these produce and dairy items, so you know you are not getting blasted with chemical pesticides.

3. Use What You Buy and Buy What You Use

If you are concerned about freshness, keep things like nuts you buy at a club store fresh by storing them in the freezer. That way you can enjoy them for a longer period of time and not have to worry about them going stale before you can finish them. Keep in mind also that frozen vegetables and fruits have nearly the same benefit as the fresh varieties, but have the convenience of a longer storage time. However, some phytonutrients are diminished during the freezing process and it's best if you do not rely solely on frozen fruits and vegetables, but as a backup only. Processed foods of any kind are less nutritious than fresh, so shop the outside aisles of the grocery store and let your body do the food processing.
