5 Ways to Prevent Common Motocross Racing Injuries

1. Wear the Protection

To prevent injuries, a Motocross rider has a much better chance by wearing the right kind of protection. It is worth the investment to get a good helmet and Motocross leather gloves. Motocross clothing is specially padded. Good Motocross boots include their own style of shock absorbers, which also come with stress relievers under the sole and around the ankle buckles, and up the calves. Wearing hard knee and elbow pads will save you from years of joint pain.

2. Save Your Good Looks Too

Goggles should be made out of heavy non-breakable plastic and fit snugly inside the helmet. Don't forget a mouth guard. It should be custom-fitted for your mouth. A mouth guard will not only protect your teeth from getting chipped in a fall or from flying debris, but also help to protect your brain in a bad fall. The jaw sometimes clamps together so hard in a Motocross racing accident that closed head injury is a possible outcome.

3. Keep Your Wits

Get plenty of rest before a big Motocross race so that you will be alert and aware of what's going on around the track. Never race when you are tired or have an altered state from drugs or alcohol. Prepare yourself with practice and do not enter a competition until you feel extremely confident of your abilities. Unease and nervousness can cause your body to tense up, making it more susceptible to injuries when you fall.

4. Build Your Core Muscles

Even with all the protection that you are wearing, building a strong core with crunches and weight lifting can help to protect your delicate organs. Strong muscles will make it easier to manage the bike and control its movement. Cross train with other sports that give your muscles flexibility with a full range of motion. An elliptical machine is the perfect cross-training equipment if you have to choose just one.

5. Check Your Bike

Make sure that your bike is in top condition before the race. Check the wheels and the tires for bent rims or slow leaks. Make sure your chains are oiled and operating smoothly. If you have brakes, check to make sure they are tight. Do not race if you notice any cracks in your bike's frame that could create problems when you hit the track.
