1. Curb Cravings on Dr. Oz's "You on a Diet"

"You: On a Diet" by Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Michael Roizen is an excellent book explaining the science of successful weight loss. Knowing the biology of the human body, Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen show how making dietary changes and deliberate food and lifestyle choices add up to a lighter, healthier you. There are many tips, tricks and techniques to help you understand and curb your food cravings. They even point out that it may not even be food that our body wants. The cravings may be for a restful night's sleep, a drink of water or sex. Learning to curb food cravings on Dr. Oz's "You on a Diet" is an important step to successful weight loss.

2. Have Emergency Foods On Hand

According to Dr. Oz, before reaching for a bar of candy or a bag of potato chips, reach into your bag of emergency foods to curb cravings. Certain foods are food-craving crushers, and according to Dr. Oz, it is essential to have them with you at all times. The foods we crave are usually slightly crunchy and sweet, so your emergency foods should include carrots, apples and nuts. Two other excellent alternative snacks recommended by Dr. Oz to curb cravings are a glass of fruit juice or breath strips.

3. Add a Touch of Spice

A great addition to both your emergency food bag and the foods you eat throughout the day is spice. Cinnamon added to a delicious fresh apple or pear will not only curb your cravings, but it will also reduce your appetite. Adding spices such as cinnamon or red pepper will also help you to reduce your appetite, curb cravings and lose weight.

4. Consider Your Moods

Dr. Oz believes that we crave a particular type of food because of a mood we are feeling. Knowing how your mood affects food cravings is the first step to curbing the craving. For example, when we feel anxious, our body may crave ice cream, or when we are feeling stressed, we may want to eat salty snacks such as potato chips or pretzels. Craving sweets could indicate a feeling of depression. Wanting to eat meat may be a sign of anger. A feeling of sexual frustration or loneliness may lead to a pasta craving, and if you are craving everything, it may be a sign of jealously.
