1. Kindling Kundalini
Learning how to sequence Kundalini yoga poses is far more difficult than other forms of yoga, as the goals of this yoga style are not simply physical and emotional, but also energetic and spiritual. It is highly recommended that serious students of Kundalini yoga seek a guru, or practiced teacher, as practicing Kundalini is not as simple as learning the poses. Because Kundalini yoga seeks to awaken various forms of energy, free energy blocks for the chakras and reach spiritual enlightenment, routines are designed around mantras, mudras or hand gestures, meditation, visualization and chanting. Before you can sequence your own routine, you must learn all of these important parts.
2. Letting Go
It is said that a novice yogi should not try to create their own Kundalini yoga sequences at home, so if you are looking for a form of yoga which you can adapt for home fitness, another style may be best for you. Only after years of dedication and devoted practice with a guru will you be able to let go of the mind and flow from pose to pose as your subconscious energy dictates. Once a student is able to sense the flow of energy in and out of the body, true healing begins and only the student's subconscious mind will be able to dictate which poses and in what order are appropriate. When the movements and mantras become second nature, the student will be able to literally flow through a sequence without formal organization, rather the subconscious mind will lead and the body will follow.
3. Get the Fires Burning
Unlike other forms of yoga, creating a Kundalini yoga routine is complicated and requires years of learning; however, there are a few basic guidelines that are followed which can help you to understand what to expect or how to begin to step off on your own. Begin with warming, meditative yoga poses, such as the child's pose, as you recite a chant or mantra that you have learned or created during your teachings. During this time, the mind should become quiet as you become aware of your physical energy. Let go of the outside world, and allow your body and energy to guide you through the day's sequence. When you feel ready, enter a seated meditation pose and hold a mudra, or hand gesture, which suits your energetic needs. Some days your yoga routine from beginning to end may last a few hours and seem like minutes, while other days, it may only last a few minutes, and seem like hours. The most important lesson in Kundalini yoga is to first learn the various methods of how to awaken energy, and then allow that energy to guide you.
