Volleyball is a sport in which success is dependent on the athleticism and talent level of the players on the team. While those physical characteristics play a huge role in the success of a team, volleyball is also a game of momentum and teamwork. As such, it's wise to engage in activities that build team attitude and spirit.

Tip Drill

One of the keys in volleyball is the rescue shot. Players who have a shot at putting the opponent away with a spike get most of the attention, but it's the shot where a player rescues the point by digging out what appears to be an impossible shot that builds that great team feeling. You can help build that in practice with the tip drill. In the drill, toss the ball over the net and the players have to keep the ball alive by tipping it to their teammates. The idea is to pass it at least 10 times. The drill teaches ball control and agility, and it will show players they can keep any ball alive and allow them to return any shot.

Serving Game

One of the key ways of gaining control of a volleyball match is consistent serving. Teams almost always suffer a drop in demeanor and confidence when they lose the serve by hitting it into the net or serving it long. In practice, you can build team camaraderie by having each player make 10 consecutive serves that land in the court. This will also build serving confidence. While one player is serving, have the other players cheer and offer support.

Community Awareness

Playing an organized sport is an honor and a privilege for players. In addition to playing hard on the court, they need to give something back to the community. One of the ways this can be done is by organizing a trip fro your players to the local hospital to spend time with sick youngsters who will have their spirits raised by a visit from the volleyball team players. It will help volleyball players realize they are part of the community and they are willing to help those who are less fortunate.
