3 Ways to Teach Integral Yoga

1. Offer a Course in Integral Yoga

To teach integral yoga, you must read "The Synthesis of Yoga" by Sri Aurobindo. This book provides a deep understanding of the core concepts of this school of yoga. Use the concepts from the book as the structure for your Integral yoga classes. There is no prescribed formula in this school of yoga. Rather, the teacher's role is to provide an overview of the path and encourage students in their efforts to achieve supremental consciousness. To offer courses, approach your local yoga studio, Hindu temple or community center. Look for yoga studios currently offering courses in Karma, Jnana, Raja and Bhakti yoga, as these schools have many ideas in common with Integral yoga. Decide how many courses you are able to offer and provide a structure for the students' level of skill. Create a course outline, listing planned activity for each class. Specify the lecture sessions on the principles of Integral yoga and the topics to be covered.

2. Join an Integral Yoga Ashram

The Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Auroville provides classes and opportunity for teaching Integral yoga. Contact the ashram in advance and inquire about availability, and opportunities for teachers to join the ashram. The California Institute of Integral Studies and the Integral Institute both offer courses for intermediate and master level classes. Contact the institute for information about course offerings, opportunities for teaching, and teacher training. These institutes and ashrams provide opportunities for teaching Integral yoga and receiving feedback on teaching techniques.

3. Create an Integral Yoga Video

Integral yoga is a school of yoga that easily lends itself to a set series of visual learning tools. Contact a local film and distribution company and schedule a meeting to pitch your idea for the development of an Integral Yoga Series. Set the meeting at least six weeks in advance. To prepare for the meeting, create a story board, course outline and presentation plan. Hire a professional camera person and contact the local film school for the names of students who can help manage the creation of a demonstration video, suitable for commercial sale. Practice your script with a live class. Get their feedback on what works and what needs to be improved. Make changes to the script, timing and pace of the class. Schedule a taping session. Ask volunteers to appear in the class as students. Film the demonstration video and present it to the film distribution company, along with facts on the size of the yoga market and estimated sales targets.
