A wave board is a skateboard that has only two wheels. This makes it more difficult to balance, but it also allows you to perform tricks that you normally could not do with a skateboard. To ride a wave skateboard, you need to use your legs in a twisting motion, in addition to being able to keep your balance.
Step 1
Place your dominant foot at the front of the wave board. Keep it in the middle of the wave board width-wise.
Step 2
Push off the ground with the foot not on the wave board. As soon as you push off and gain enough speed, place it on the back of the wave board in the middle of the board width-wise. Keep it as close to the middle of the board as you can to help maintain your balance.
Step 3
Twist your legs to tip the wave board to each side to make an S-shape pattern with your board's trail. To do this, lean backward, which will make the wave board go to the right (if your right foot is in front). Lean forward and the wave board will go to the left. Continue the back and forth motion to pick up speed.
Step 4
Learn how to make safe and controlled turns. Assuming your right foot is in front, lean backward slowly to turn right. Lean forward slowly to turn to left. You want to lean just enough to make the wave board lean, but not so much that the board tips over. It should not be too close to the ground or it will scrape the ground, almost certainly making you fall. As you become more comfortable turning, you can learn to make sharp turns by twisting the back side of the wave board in the opposite direction. However, do not attempt this until you are confident in your abilities.
Step 5
Allow the wave board to slow down, then step off as the board is beginning to tip over.
Tips and Warnings
- Always wear the proper safety equipment while riding a wave board, including helmet, pads and wrist guards.
- Beware of the risk of injury that the wave board presents.
