The drug generically named eletriptan is marketed in the United States under the brand name Relpax. It is used in the treatment of migraine headaches that are severe. According to Drugs.com, Relpax works by narrowing the blood vessels surrounding the brain. This medication also reduces the substances within the human body that trigger sensitivity to light and sound, and may help to reduce or eliminate the pain and nausea associated with these severe headaches. The Mayo Clinic reports Relpax has no common serious side effects associated with it.
Drowsiness
Drowsiness is a common, non-serious side effect of Relpax, Drugs.com reports. It appears as a form of tiredness in which the person's responses to activities of daily living are slowed down. He may feel like going to bed and getting some rest even if he already has slept. Generally, this will be a temporary problem that will go away after the first several days of using Relpax.
Dry Mouth
The Mayo Clinic states that dry mouth, or a feeling similar to having a mouth full of cotton, may occur because of this medication. This side effect typically goes away as the person's body becomes accustomed to the medication. Like all side effects classified as non-serious, however, if this problem persists or is severe, a physician should be contacted.
Fatigue
Many medications can induce a sense of fatigue or weakness in the body when they first are used. Relpax may cause these problems and the user may feel she has lost her strength or simply does not have as much strength to perform tasks as usual. These will be temporary side effects in most people, the Mayo Clinic reports.
Dizziness and Nausea
Many drugs also cause temporary, non-serious side effects that can make the user feel dizzy and nauseous. Relpax may make a person feel dizzy and unbalanced. Stomach upset and queasiness can result as well. These problems, too, should pass in a few days.
