The Illinois-based J.R. Carlson Laboratories manufactures several fish oil supplements, including both pills and liquid drinks. You can experience several health benefits when taking Carlson's Fish Oil products, some specific to the Carlson product and some attributed to the effects of fish oil in general. But it's far from a wonder drug and you may also experience negative side effects. Ask your doctor before you take any Carlson product to ensure it is right for your health.

Reduced Blood Pressure

Fish oil supplementation can lower blood pressure, according to the National Institutes of Health. The institutes report that docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA, has a greater effect than eicosapentaenoic acid, or EPA. The U.S. National Library of Medicine's Dietary Supplements Labels Database reports that Carlson Fish Oil has both.

Lowered Heart Disease Risks

The two acids found in Carlson Fish Oil reduce incidences of heart disease like heart attacks, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. This may be due in part to the oil's ability to prevent the hardening of arteries and the buildup of plaque inside your veins.

Reduced Triglycerides

Supplementation with fish oil capsules or drinks like Carlson's various products help to "significantly reduce blood triglyceride levels," according to the National Institutes of Health. This helps improve general cardiovascular health.

Oil Purity

Carlson's Fish Oil supplements are sourced from deep-water ocean fish like sardines and mackerels, and has been tested by FDA-registered laboratories to ensure they're free of heavy metal toxins like lead and mercury, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. This is of great importance when giving fish oil supplements to children, who are more susceptible to mercury than adults.

Lower Inflammation

Fish oil supplements may act as an anti-inflammatory and help with various related maladies like arthritis, reports the Mayo Clinic. It can be especially effective when used in conjunction with standard anti-inflammatory drugs.

Antioxidants

The U.S. National Library of Medicine says some Carlson products come enhanced with additional antioxidant supplementation, like extra vitamin E. This varies by product, but may have general health improvement benefits related to the role that antioxidants play in limiting the effects of free radicals, which are damaging particles released by environmental toxins.
