With flip flops and open toe dress shoes, it is always nice to show off well-groomed toes. Whether you are cleaning your feet up for beach season or for a special occasion, it is important to take care of your feet and keep your toes looking their best. You can get that salon pedicure at home with just a few tools of your own.
Foot Bath
One of the most important tools when performing a pedicure is to have a warm water foot bath to soften up the skin and allow for optimal exfoliation of your feet. You can make your own or purchase a foot spa with various features to enhance your foot bathing experience. Homedics and Target both offer several foot baths ranging from around twenty to fifty dollars. Some of them include massage tools and swirling water jets.
Exfoliator
In order to remove calluses and dead skin on the bottom of your feet, you will need an exfoliating tool. You can use pumice stone or a filing tool to manually slough off the dead skin, or you can purchase a tool to assist. Homedics sells an automated spinning foot exfoliator for only $15 that will cut back on the effort needed to thoroughly exfoliate your feet properly.
Cuticle Cutters
Get a nice set of cuticle cutters in order to trim around each nail for that salon-polished look. They should be sharp to easily clip away cuticles and excess skin, and not cause problematic tearing and cuts. Always push back the cuticles before you cut.
Toe Nail Clippers
Toe nail clippers are generally stronger and larger than finger nail clippers, so ensure you are using the appropriate tool. Cut them down to a comfortable length with an even straight edge to prevent ingrown toe nails.
Toe Separator
Before you paint your newly manicured toe nails, use a toe separator to prevent the nail polish from smudging on neighboring toes. Buy foam toe separators at just about any convenience or beauty store, such as Sally's Beauty Supply, for under $5.
