You can burn many calories while jumping on a trampoline. Whether you jump for long periods of time, change the way you jump or play around with friends, the trampoline will help you lose weight. According to the Birmingham Post, the trampoline is a versatile form of exercise that helps maintain a healthy body weight and lessen the likelihood of obesity.

Step 1

Jump for extended amounts of time. To lose or maintain weight loss, the American College of Sports Medicine recommends 60 to 90 minutes of physical activity. If you are unable to jump for 60 minutes straight, break it up into smaller increments. For example, jump 20 minutes in the morning, 20 minutes at lunch and 20 minutes before dinner.

Step 2

Interval train using the trampoline. Interval training alternates between high- and low-intensity exercise to raise and lower your heart rate. On a trampoline, you can alternate between quick feet drills and slow high-jumps. For quick feet drills, get in a squatting position and run in place as fast as you can. If you keep your center of gravity low, you will not bounce high into the air. Perform quick-feet for 30 seconds then jump regularly into to air for 30 seconds. Keep alternating between the two for at least 10 minute increments.

Step 3

Add weight to your body by wearing extra clothing, a weight-vest or try holding small hand-weights. The extra weight will create resistance and require more work from your leg muscles. Holding hand-weights will help strengthen your arm muscles. According to "Fitness: Theory and Practice" by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, you should strength train at least two to three days per week. While your muscles are getting stronger, your body is burning calories---even after you have stopped jumping.

Step 4

Play games with friends. Time flies when you are having fun---and you're burning calories, too. Have your friends sit on the trampoline while you jump. Jump as hard as you can so your friends bounce into the air. The more people you have on the trampoline, the harder it is to jump, which requires you to exert more energy.

Step 5

Jump to the beat of music if you have a single-person trampoline. Pick some of your favorite songs and try to match the beats with your jumps. For faster beats, crouch low into a squatting position while jumping.
