If you have thin and sparse eyelashes, you may be suffering from a condition known as hypotrichosis. This term is used to describe inadequate or non-existent hair growth. If you notice any type of hair loss on the body that occurs unexpectedly, contact your doctor. This could signify a medical condition, such as cancer or thyroid disease. In the meantime, applying mascara helps your lashes appear longer and thicker while you wait for them to grow out.

Step 1

To encourage hair growth in all areas of the body, follow a diet high in protein, iron, calcium, vitamin C, B vitamins and calcium. Foods to eat include poultry, fish, green leafy vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds, and milk.

Step 2

Visit a physician that prescribes Latisse®. Latisse® is the first eyelash growth treatment product approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA). On the Latisse® website, you can put in your zip code to find local doctors that prescribe it.

Step 3

Clean your face. Remove all makeup and take out your contact lenses before you apply Latisse®.

Step 4

Wet the Latisse® applicator with a single drop of the solution. Use the Latisse® applicator brush to place the solution in an even coat at the base of the upper eyelashes. Blot any excess solution with a clean, dry tissue. Repeat application for both eyes. Use Latisse® once a night or as directed by your doctor.

Step 5

Take a hair growth supplement. There are over the counter vitamin supplements formulated for optimal nail, hair and skin health. These supplements include nutrients required for healthy hair that you may not be getting from your diet.
