3 Ways to Prepare Spring Macrobiotic Diet Meals

1. Use Spring Produce

The Macrobiotic diet is not necessarily a diet but a lifestyle. Learning to eat foods that are in balance is part of that lifestyle change. Preparing spring meals means eating what is in season in springtime. Grains planted in the fall that are coming to harvest in spring are ideal. These are things such as soft wheat. Other foods to prepare for spring would be foods such as sprouts, early greens or dandelion greens. Many berries come into season in the spring as well. Check for things such as strawberries. 60 percent of your diet should be made up of grains. 25 to 30 percent should consist of your fruits and vegetables. There are many great choices of in season foods for both of these groups.

2. Find Locally Grown Food

When preparing a spring macrobiotic meal consider the sources of your food. You want locally grown food. If you are living in North America, tropical food is not what you are looking for. Check for local produce stands or farmers markets for fresh and local produce. You want food that is grown in the most natural way, as well. Produce grown without chemicals and fertilizers is better for keeping the balance in your diet. When using a local producer, you can get to know who is growing your food and ask them about their growing environment.

3. Prepare Simply

Preparing spring meals is not all about the food that you use. You also want to consider your method of preparing the food. You want to do as little harm to your food as possible. Spring is a great time to enjoy a simple salad. Other easy methods to use while preparing spring meals are stir frying, steaming and pressure cooking. Use wooden utensils and cookware made of cast iron or stainless steel. This helps balance the chi of your food.
