Many people suffer from feeling embarrassed or nervous, but if you also tend to blush, everyone knows when you are having a stressful moment, because it shows on your face. Whether it's the result of rosacea, nervousness or an occasional reaction to drinking or the sun, blushing can make your face red and hot. To calm your face and even out your skin tone, you can use a combination of quick remedies, prevention methods and covering techniques to give your face a more even color.

Stress Reduction

If your blushing is the result of stress, nervousness or anxiety, work hard to stop your anxious feelings to reduce and eventually stop blushing. HelpGuide.org recommends breathing techniques in order to gain control of the situation and calm down. Try breathing in for a count of five and out for a count of five to help steady your nerves. Practice visualization to get you through stressful situations, and make sure that you get enough sleep so that you can stay calm when anxiety threatens to turn your face red. It can also help to take a break from the situation and calm your nerves before entering the situation again.

Blushing Prevention

You can prevent blushing by making sure you stay away from stimuli that can cause your face to turn red. For instance, alcohol can aggravate blushing, causing your face to feel flushed. Sun exposure is especially aggravating to rosacea, notes the American Academy of Family Physicians, so it's important that you use sunscreen and protect your skin when outside. Other things, like spicy foods, hot drinks and strenuous exercise can also cause you to look flushed, so it's best to avoid these if you're planning to be in a situation where blushing will bother you or make you stand out.

Concealing with Makeup

A good way to stop facial blushing is to hide it so only you know when you're feeling anxious and flushed. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends using a green-hued makeup to cover up redness on the face. Because red and green are opposite each other on the color wheel, they effectively cancel each other out, resulting in a more neutral appearance. Look for a creamy mint-green concealer, and apply it underneath your foundation and powder. This way, even if you do experience blushing or redness, it is hidden by the makeup and effectively cured until you wash the makeup away.
