1. Eat Processed Foods
Most people have to worry about an excess of uric acid in the diet. However, people with conditions such as multiple sclerosis and molybdenum deficiency, in which the body contains too little uric acid, are in the opposite boat. The tools to increase uric acid in the body are all around you. Most processed foods cause an increase in uric acid, including packaged meats (liverwurst, hot dogs, cocktail sausages, chicken liver) and store-bought bread. Other products made with white flour will also increase uric acid levels (pancakes, cakes, desserts, pasta), as will anything made with refined sugar.
Since most packaged and processed foods contain some combination of the above foods, all will increase your body's uric acid levels. The body does not function well with an excess of uric acid in the system, so if you need to increase your uric acid levels, make sure you work closely with your doctor to measure your levels on a regular basis. Going too far will result in your body's inability to eliminate excess uric acid, which can result in gout and certain types of diabetes, as well as other health complications.
2. Cook Your Vegetables
Fresh vegetables increase alkalinity in the body, but cooked vegetables, such cooked spinach, can increase uric acid levels. Cooking vegetables alters the organic salt composition in the vegetables, changing them from alkaline to acidic foods. The longer you cook the vegetables, the more you change the alkaline character.
3. Choose Red Meats Over White
All meats are going to increase uric acid in the diet. However, red meat (beef, venison, pork and meat from any other mammal) elevates uric acid levels in the body more quickly than meat from poultry and fish sources.
Organ meats, such as liver and kidneys, will increase uric acid levels even more quickly than other red meat choices, such as roast beef and pork shoulder. Many organ meats can be found canned on the grocer's shelves and don't require further cooking or processing before eating, making them a convenient choice for sandwiches and lunch boxes.
