Apple cider vinegar is a strong acidic solution often used in cooking and cleaning. However, it is also popular as a remedy for sore throats from colds or strep throat infections. The antibacterial properties of vinegar can help neutralize infections in the throat that cause pain. Note that apple cider vinegar solutions are not a replacement for prescribed medication but may offer additional relief.


Making a drink with apple cider vinegar is a common practice that is often used for ongoing health and well-being. Vinegar can also help during times of illness, as the vinegar may soothe or treat a sore throat. The proportions of this drink can vary, and it is easily made at home. Simply add 1 to 2 tsp. of apple cider vinegar to a cup or two of warm water and stir. Sip the drink gradually one to three times a day. The strength of this mixture may be tailored to suit your tolerance. Generally, a higher vinegar concentration will treat symptoms more effectively.

For a stronger effect, gargle with a solution of high apple cider vinegar content. This solution is mixed similarly to the beverage, but the proportions are more strongly weighted toward the vinegar. Try just one small swallow of pure apple cider vinegar that is not mixed with anything else. If acceptable, take another. Continue to sip the apple cider vinegar several times throughout the day. It is wise to flush the system with water after each dose.
