A BMX rollback, commonly known as a "fakie rollback," is a trick that involves riding up a steep transition or bank in a forward motion and rolling back without spinning the bike around. Only when the bike has rolled back down the transition does the rider swing the bike around and ride off in a forward direction.
Step 1
Find a suitable transition: Start with a gentle slope with plenty of space to ride in and out of the trick. Ride into the rollback at a slow pace until you have mastered the trick. Stand upright on the pedals of the bike, keeping your weight balanced over the center of the bike.
Step 2
Bend your knees to aid your balance as you reach the top of the transition. Remain centered over the middle of the bike; you might be tempted to lean forward as you reach the top, but don't.
Step 3
Pedal backward as the bike reaches the top of its trajectory. This is important, as failing to pedal backward will result in the bike's chain tightening and the back wheel seizing up. Continue to bend your knees to help you balance as the bike travels back down the transition.
Step 4
Turn your head to help you assess how far down the transition you have traveled. Continue to keep your weight over the middle of the bike as you reach the bottom of the slope, even though the temptation might be to lean backward.
Step 5
Turn the handlebars of your bike in your preferred direction as you once again start to travel on flat ground. Swing your torso around in the direction that you are turning and lift your handlebars off the ground to allow the bike to swing back on its rear wheel. Momentum will spin you into a forward-facing direction.
Step 6
Switch to pedaling forward and ride away from the trick.
