Lavender oil has a sweet floral scent that is known to aid with stress relief and relaxation. It also has anti-fungal and antiseptic properties that make it a helpful remedy for curing acne, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Always buy pure oil if you will be using it to treat your skin, since chemical substitutes can further aggravate your condition.
Lavender Soap
You can find ready made lavender soaps in any health food store, however, making your own soap will ensure you are using pure lavender oil that will be beneficial to treat your acne.
Add six cups of shredded unscented soap to a cup of organic whole milk and heat them at a low temperature in order to avoid any bubbles. Stir constantly until base soap is completely melted and let it sit for one hour until the mixture looks like a thick paste. Add one tsp. of jojoba oil and seven drops of pure lavender oil. You can also add a pinch of dry lavender buds before placing the mixture in molds and letting it cool-off at room temperature. Use this soap before bedtime and in the morning in order to disinfect your skin and help heal your acne.
Lavender Steam
Using steam helps loosen impurities in the skin and opens your pores, allowing the medicinal qualities of lavender to penetrate deeper.
Boil water in large pot and remove from heat. Add fresh or dry lavender buds to the water as well as five to 10 drops of pure lavender oil. Stand over the steam, draping a cloth or towel over you to retain the heat. Inhale slowly and let the steam open your pores for 10 to 15 minutes. If the steam feels too hot, open a corner of the towel to release some of it. The steam should never burn your face or feel uncomfortable.
Lavender Facial Scrub
Facial scrubs can help remove blackheads and help bring circulation back to the skin, however you must make sure to use gentle application in order not to scratch or irritate your skin.
Combine 2 tbsp. each of finely ground oatmeal and brown sugar. Add five drops of pure lavender oil and 1/2 cup of almond oil. Mix well and apply gently onto your skin, using circular motions around the cheekbones, chin and forehead. Avoid any contact with the area around your eyes. Rinse the scrub with warm water and pat dry.
