Aromatherapy can help you shake off the day's stresses. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, aromatherapy helps decrease anxiety, spurs relaxation and can even help ease pain. Aromatherapy packs add additional relaxation benefits because they combine aromatherapy with soothing heat. They can be simple to make with a few household items and a few aromatherapy oils.
Step 1
Choose a soft, clean wash cloth that feels good against your skin. Remove any tags or labels. Set aside.
Step 2
Pour 2 cups of rice into a bowl. Use any type of rice.
Step 3
Add 5 to 10 drops of lavender oil to your rice and stir. Lavender oil helps calm the nervous system and promotes sleep and relaxation, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Choose chamomile, clary sage, jasmine or sandalwood oils if you do not like lavender as all encourage relaxation, according to Aura Cacia. Add more oil, 1 to 3 drops at a time, if you prefer a stronger scent.
Step 4
Lay your washcloth flat on the table with the front side of the fabric facing up. Fold it in half so the front sides are now touching on the inside. Sew up three sides of your wash cloth.
Step 5
Turn the wash cloth right-side out through the remaining open side.
Step 6
Pour rice into the open side. Pour only until the pack is loosely full even if you do not use all the rice. It is better to have a pack with some give than a tightly stuffed one.
Step 7
Sew up the remaining side.
Step 8
Place your pack in the microwave for 30 seconds to warm the rice. Place the pack inside your pillow, over your eyes or on your forehead as you lay down.
