The human body can be polluted by a variety of different toxins on a daily basis. From processed foods to bacteria, cigarette smoke, and a sedentary lifestyle, the body and its internal organs endure a lot of damage. It is often necessary to detoxify the body, ridding it of impurities. But before you go out and buy a commercial cleanser, consider several natural detox methods.

Water

The cheapest and easiest remedy to detox the body is to drink more water. Naturaldetoxmethods.com recommends drinking at least eight glasses of water a day to help flush the body of toxins, restore proper hydration and promote water balance in the body. If the body is not properly hydrated, the cells will draw water from the bloodstream, pressurizing and burdening the heart, according to Pureinsideout.com. This same source recommends using filtered or purified water rather than bottled water.

Diet

Processed foods have become a staple of the American diet, causing free radicals and foreign chemicals to inundate the body's systems. Naturally restoring proper health can be as easy as eating natural foods--more fruits and vegetables and unprocessed whole grains. Eating the daily recommendation of fiber--25 to 30 grams--can also help regulate the body and flush out toxins. Some specific foods that may be helpful in detoxifying the body are fresh fish, farm fresh eggs, brown rice, millet, legumes and dried or fresh fruit. You also may want to remove some foods from your diet to restore your system to health. Naturaldetoxmethods.com suggests removing milk and dairy products, meat products like sausage, clams and mussels, potatoes, peppers, eggplant, frozen or packaged products, margarine, sugar products, sweet drinks and coffee.

Herbs

The liver is one of the most important organs of the body, and often one of the most abused. Detox-methods.com suggests the following liver detox tea recipe: dandelion root, burdock root, licorice root, fennel seed, peppermint leaf and chamomile flower. Take a handful of each herb, and bring them to a boil in a pot of water. Turn the heat to low, and let it simmer for 25 to 30 minutes. Strain the liquid into a pitcher or mug, and drink it throughout the day. You can dilute the tea as much as you want or even add raw honey to enhance the flavor.
