Making small lifestyle changes can help your hair grow quicker. Poor nutrition and rough handling of hair can prevent optimal growth. Even while you attempt to grow out your hair, keep up with your regular trimming appointments every six to eight weeks. Snipping off dead ends can help hair grow and keep the mane well shaped while it does. While you wait for your hair to grow out, lengthen it with hair extensions.

Step 1

Eat a well-balanced diet. Include foods with nutrients, such as B vitamins, beta carotene, vitamin A, protein and iron required for healthy hair growth. Foods that include these nutrients are fish, poultry, eggs, green leafy vegetables, peppers, carrots, beans and milk.

Step 2

Take a hair growth supplement. In some cases, you may not be getting enough nutrients from food sources. Over-the-counter hair growth supplements are available that include the vitamins and minerals needed to grow out your hair quickly. Purchase the supplement through nutritional supply stores and follow the manufacturer's dosage instructions.

Step 3

Stop smoking. The Hair Boutique website recommends avoiding smoking and caffeinated beverages to help maximize your hair growth potential.

Step 4

Limit the use of thermal styling products. Overexposure to heat can damage the hair and prevents optimal growth. Air dry the hair when possible and avoid the use of curling irons, straighteners, hot rollers and crimpers. Limit sun and wind exposure by wearing hats while outdoors.

Step 5

Wear the hair down. Tight hairstyles, such as braids, cornrows, buns and ponytails can break the hair and cause slow hair growth. Never excessively pull or twist at the hair. The hair should be completely dried before you brush or style it. Avoid securing the hair in clips, rubber bands and barrettes since they can cause hair damage as well.
