Ciprol, the brand name for ciprofloxacin, is a prescription fluoroquinolne medication used to treat bacterial infections such as prostate or urinary tract infections. This medication works by preventing the growth and spread of bacteria through the body. Ciprol is marketed under the brand name Cipro within the United States. Patients who are prescribed Ciprol should discuss the potential side effects of this medication with a doctor before beginning treatment.

Stomach Upset

Patients can develop an upset stomach after taking a dose of Ciprol. Stomach upset side effects can include nausea and vomiting, which can lead to a decreased appetite in certain patients. A patient who develops unusual watery or bloody diarrhea during treatment with this medication should seek medical care as soon as possible.

Blurred Vision, Headache or Dizziness

Treatment with Ciprol can cause side effects of blurred vision, headache or dizziness, warns Drugs.com, a peer-reviewed drug information website for consumers. In conjunction, these side effects can affect a patient's ability to remain alert and focused while at work or school. Dizziness or blurred vision can cause affected patients to become unstable while standing or walking. Persistent or recurrent episodes of dizziness, headache or blurred vision during Ciprol treatment should be discussed with a doctor.

Sleeping Difficulties or Restlessness

Patients taking Ciprol can become unusually restless, anxious or nervous as side effects of treatment. These mood-related side effects may interfere with a patient's ability to fall asleep or stay asleep throughout the night. Patients who do not get enough sleep during the night can experience daytime fatigue. As a result, affected patients may not be as productive as usual during the day. Additional mood-related side effects, such as depression or confusion, can also occur during Ciprol treatment, which should be discussed with a doctor as soon as possible.

Sunlight Sensitivity

Increased sensitivity to sunlight can occur as a side effect of Ciprol treatment in certain patients. It is important for patients taking this medication to avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight due to an increased risk of sustaining sunburn. Patients who develop a skin rash or severe blistering or peeling of the skin following sun exposure should contact a doctor for further evaluation. If a patients chooses to venture outdoors while taking Ciprol, sunscreen or protective clothing should be utilized to limit skin exposure to the sun.

Vaginal Yeast Infection

Female patients taking Ciprol may be at an increased risk of developing a vaginal yeast infection, says PDR Health, a medical information resource provided by the publishers of the Physicians' Desktop Reference. This medication can indiscriminately kill naturally-occurring bacteria within the vagina, which can lead to the development of a yeast infection. Symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection include vaginal itching and thick, white vaginal discharge. Females who develop vaginal yeast infection symptoms while taking Ciprol should seek additional care from a doctor as additional medication may be necessary to resolve this infection.
