Bowflex Motivator Instructions

The Bowflex Motivator is a home gym designed to assist in exercises by providing resistance through a combination of cables, pulleys and flexible rods. You can use the Motivator in more than 50 exercises that target the abdomen, chest, shoulders, back, arms and legs. In order to configure the device for use in certain exercises, however, you must first adjust the angle of the bench and select the desired amount of resistance; fortunately, the steps involved are straightforward and require no special tools.

Before Exercise

Step 1

Examine the bottom of the bench bracket and locate the threaded knob. Unscrew the threaded knob, then remove the knob and set it aside. Lower the bench onto the ground, then screw the threaded knob into the hole at the top of the seat rail. Examine the bundle of resistance rods; remove the strap binding the rods together.

Step 2

Check the numbers on the resistance rods and determine how much resistance you wish to use. Insert the hooked end of one of the cables into the loop at the end of your selected resistance rod; to connect more than one rod, start with the rod nearest the cable and work towards the center of the bundle. Repeat the process with the remaining cable.

Step 3

Remove the bench seat pin and threaded knob and set the bench to your desired position. To set the bench to an inclined position, slide the bench towards the front of the device, then lift the end opposite the seat and pull it upwards. Replace the bench seat pin and threaded knob when the bench is in place.

Step 4

Examine the base of the machine and locate the standing platform. Lift the standing platform off of the base and select a position appropriate for the type of exercise you wish to perform. Align the slots in the platform with the pegs on the base that correspond to your selected position, then lower the platform into place.

Step 5

Select which accessory you wish to connect to the machine's cables. Attach the cable snaps to the D-rings on the selected accessory.

After Exercise

Step 1

Disconnect the cables from the resistance rods, then remove any attached accessories.

Step 2

Bundle the rods together, along with the cables and accessories, if desired. Use the rod binding strap to hold the bundle together.

Step 3

Use a non-abrasive cleanser to wipe down the bench. Remove the threaded knob from the top of the seat rail and lift the bench upwards. Examine the bench bracket and locate the bottommost hole. Insert the threaded knob into the hole and tighten it until the bench is properly secured.
