If you've had a bad haircut, few things are more frustrating than waiting for your hair to grow. Most peoples' hair grows six to eight inches per year. Many factors can slow that rate, including poor nutrition, hormonal changes and even the weather. Don't give up. While there is no miracle method for growing hair faster, there are things you can do to speed hair growth. The main thing to remember if you want to grow hair fast is to take the process seriously, and stay committed.
Step 1
Eat a healthy, high-protein diet. Poor nutrition can lead to slower hair growth, as well as increased breakage. Get plenty of leafy, green vegetables as well as cheese, eggs, fish, lean meats, nuts and seeds which contain the vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and natural oils that your hair needs in order to grow.
Step 2
Exercise for 30 minutes a day, at least 3 times a week. Exercise helps increase circulation, which stimulates hair growth. Working up a good, healthy sweat also keeps follicles and pores from becoming clogged.
Step 3
Wash your hair with a strengthening shampoo and conditioner. Wrap your hair in an absorbent towel or turban instead of wringing or rubbing it dry, to avoid causing breakage.
Step 4
Comb out tangles with a wide-toothed comb. This helps avoid breakage, and avoids over-stimulating your scalp into producing excess oils which can clog hair follicles and slow down its growth.
Step 5
Take nutritional supplements designed to promote hair growth. Vitamins A, B, C, E and K will feed your hair, as will folic acid. Follow the dosage directions carefully, and don't take more than is recommended.
Step 6
Stay hydrated. Drink at least 32 ounces of water every day, and try for 64 ounces on days when you exercise. Dehydration retards hair growth and contributes to breakage.
Step 7
Trim the ends of your hair every 6 to 8 weeks, or when you notice split ends. Contrary to myth, this will not make your hair grow faster, but it will keep it looking healthier and help avoid further breakage.
Tips and Warnings
- Braid your hair and secure it with a coated hair elastic before bed as soon as it is long enough. This helps protect from pillow friction as you turn over in your sleep.
- Never use a hair brush on wet hair. Avoid any harsh chemicals or excessive heat when trying to grow hair fast.
