The liver performs more than 500 vital functions, including filtering harmful substances from your blood, breaking down fats and producing hormones. In addition, the liver is the only organ in your body capable of regenerating itself. While there's little firm evidence that "cleansing" drinks are helpful in maintaining health, the lemon liver cleanse is among several such drinks that have gained a following.
Lemon Liver Cleanse
Step 1
Hold a 16-oz. bottle of olive or walnut oil under hot running tap water to help make it more fluid and easier to drink. The oil should be at room temperature prior to heating.
Step 2
Combine 2 oz. olive or walnut oil with 4 oz. organic apple juice. The apple juice should also be at room temperature. Drink the mixture. You can use up to 4 oz. oil with an equal or greater amount of apple juice if you like.
Step 3
Squeeze 2 oz. lemon juice from fresh lemons. Drink the same amount of lemon juice as the oil consumed in Step 2. You can mix the lemon juice with a small amount of water or apple juice to make it more palatable.
Step 4
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until you drink all 16 oz. of oil and an equal amount of fresh lemon juice. This should take less than two hours.
One Day Lemon Liver/Gallbladder Cleanse
Step 1
Drink 1 oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice and 1 oz. extra virgin olive oil upon waking in the morning. Your stomach should be empty. Drink a sip of lemon juice, followed by a sip of olive oil, until you have consumed 1 oz. of each.
Step 2
Repeat Step 1 every hour throughout the day. In all, you'll consume 11 to 16 doses of fresh lemon juice and extra-virgin olive oil.
Step 3
Drink pure water or organic apple juice between doses if you like.
