If you're looking for ways to work out at home, DVDs offer the ultimate solution. Not only are they cheap, but most require no equipment and are usually clearly labeled for fitness level, so if you're a beginner you won't end up with a killing workout you can't complete. What DVD workouts are best depends on a number of factors, including personal preferences in type of workout, length and intensity.

Fat-Burning Kickboxing Workout for Dummies

A good option for burning tons of calories in a single workout, this DVD is a "calorie blasting workout" that burns about 700 calories per hour, according to Fitness Magazine. While the kickboxing part might be intimidating to beginners, instructor Keli Roberts is a pro at teaching the most basic movements in just a couple of steps. The workout is not only a great cardio routine, but also works the lower body and upper body, with major concentration on abs, gluts and shoulders. Aside from the workout routine itself, there's also an instructional 15-minute video that teaches you the 10 basic moves required to follow the program.

Dance Off the Inches: Fat Burning Jam

A fun workout, Dance off the Inches is meant to get you in shape without really making you feel like you're working out. While the routine burns only 300 calories, it's easy enough for people of all ages to follow. The workout starts with a 10-minute intro in which you learn the steps that will take you through the rest of the DVD. Mostly jazz and hip-hop music make this a current workout. The workout lasts only 36 minutes, making it a good choice for those who are time crunched or who are not ready to brave longer routines.

Jillian Michaels: The Complete Workout for Beginners

The star trainer to The Biggest Loser TV show, Jillian Michaels offers an excellent circuit training workout that you can change and adapt based on how much time you have available and what your fitness level is. This 2-DVD set offers a total of 12 circuit training workouts, ranging in length from about 6 minutes to about 14 minutes. You can choose to do just one or combine them for better results. The DVD also offers a unique feature: interviews with people who used the DVD and experienced incredible transformations. The interviews are meant to inspire and guide you, rather than being set up as infomercials. You'll need dumbbells to do these workouts.
