Sunburns are not only painful reminders of too much sun, they also can cause excessive skin peeling as the top layer of damaged skin is removed. The face is one particular area of the body that is prone to overexposure to the sun. Peeling skin on the face can pose an aggravation when applying cosmetics or other facial products. You can treat peeling skin and eliminate the problem with proper skin care to heal damage done by the sun.

Step 1

Apply aloe vera gel to your sunburned face several times daily. Aloe vera helps promote healing of damaged skin while soothing itchiness and pain due to sunburn. The gel also introduces moisture to the skin, helping prevent or eliminate skin peeling as the skin dries.

Step 2

Apply a thin layer of moisturizer to your face after cleansing. Cleansing will remove some of the dead skin, and the moisturizer keeps the skin moist and helps boost the skin's healing process.

Step 3

Add a cup of oatmeal to a washcloth and tie the ends to keep the oatmeal from dripping out. Soak the washcloth in a cupful of lukewarm water and wash your face with the oatmeal-filled cloth. This will add moisture to the skin while soothing itching from flaking.

Step 4

Eat plenty of protein-rich foods such as lean meats, poultry and beans. Protein helps heal the skin from the inside out by providing the necessary elements for collagen fiber production and skin cell regeneration. Healing the skin quickly will eliminate peeling and allow for fresh new skin to form.

Step 5

Apply a thin layer of honey to your face and leave it on for five to 10 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water and pat dry. Honey coats the skin and provides itch relief while helping to remove peeling skin by adhering to the dead layers and removing them once it is rinsed from the skin.
