Sexual Questions Part II
1. What is an erection?
An erection is a hardening of the penis that occurs when tubes in the penile tissues fill up with blood. Usually, an erection causes the penis to enlarge and stand away from the body. Erections go away on their own or after orgasm and ejaculation (although prolonged erections may cause something known as "blue balls"). Erections usually begin when a male reaches puberty.
2. Is It normal to get erections during the day?
Yes, erections are a perfectly normal function of the male body, especially in guys who are going through puberty. Many erections are caused by sexual arousal, but if you've gotten an erection during a weird or embarrassing situation there's no reason to worry that something is wrong with you. Your body is just acting naturally. In fact, you can also get erections at night while you sleep. These are called "wet dreams" and they are perfectly normal.
3. Can masturbating hurt?
No, not really. You might get sore if you are masturbating a lot. If you feel sore from masturbating too much, or if masturbating gets in the way of your social life, than that is too much for you. Try a water-soluble lubricant also.
4. Is birth control only available from a doctor?
You don't have to go to a doctor to get condoms, sexual lubricants or dental dams. Condoms are sold in most drug stores chains, in some super markets and via the Internet.
Birth contol pills are only available from a doctor, although they should be used with a diaphragm to protect yourself from STDs. If you don't want to use birth control pills, you may also try Depo-Provera or Ortho Evra. You will have to see a health care provider or a clinic for these prescriptions. 5. Can a female get pregnant from giving oral sex to a male?
No.
6. Does sex hurt the first time? Will there be blood?
Sex shouldn't hurt, whether it's your first time or your hundredth time. Most women do not bleed the first time they have sexual intercourse. If there is bleeding, it's usually due to a broken or torn hymen. The hymen is a membrane that partially covers the opening of a woman's vagina. Most girls break their hymens during childhood from activities like bike riding or horseback riding, or from using tampons for their menstrual cycle, often without knowing.
If sex hurts, it's usually because a woman hasn't been sexually aroused through foreplay. That means her vagina isn't lubricated enough before penetration.
