Turkey necks are fine on turkeys, but not on humans. A turkey neck, often called a wattle or sagging chin, makes people seem older than they are, fills out their profile and gives the impression of a weak chin or jaw line. A turkey neck can also accentuate the presence of jowls, or sagging skin along the jaw line, adding years to the appearance. A few simple exercises done on a daily basis can help get rid of the dreaded turkey neck.
Tongue Contractions
While you're sitting or standing, tilt the head back until you can see the ceiling. Keeping your head lifted, press your tongue firmly against the roof of your mouth, suggests Tom Hagerty of Shape Your Face. Press the tongue as tightly against the roof of your mouth as you can. If you place your fingers under the jaw area, you'll be able to feel the muscles contract. With the tongue still pressed firmly against the roof of the mouth, slowly lower your chin, as if you're trying to touch the chin to the chest. Try to keep the neck as straight as you can while only lowering the chin. Repeat this exercise three to five times, several times a day.
Tongue Press
A very small move, but very effective in contracting and tightening the skin directly beneath the chin, this exercise requires focus and concentration for optimal benefits. Close your lips and gently press the upper and lower rows of your teeth together. Then, press your tongue against your lower teeth at the front of the mouth, suggests Today's Woman. Slowly increase the pressure of the tongue against the lower teeth as you count to 10. For added resistance, place your index and middle finger gently against the spot at the front of your throat where the under-chin skin meets the upper neck area. When you reach maximum pressure, hold that contraction for about six seconds and then gradually release the pressure and relax.
Pucker Up
Stand or sit while lifting the lower lip as high as you can over the upper lip. Hold that position and tilt your head back as far as you can, or until your nose is pointing toward the ceiling, suggests Chinese Holistic Health. Hold that position for a few seconds and then lower the chin toward the chest. Keeping the lips in the same position, repeat this move slowly about 10 times several times a day.
