In a world filled with temptations, distractions and negativity, it can be an uphill battle to find self-discipline and a positive attitude. The world, however, is filled with people who have overcome massive odds, and oppressive situations to achieve their goals and dreams, by utilizing their own self-discipline and focusing on the positive. You can use these inspiring people and their accomplishments to climb your own heights of success. True self-discipline and positive thinking is open to all.
Choose What Is Real to You
You've likely heard someone faced with choosing between a negative or positive outlook, choose the negative and say, "Well, I'm just being real." What is "real" is that you have the freedom to choose. In his book, "Harmonic Wealth", James Arthur Ray says that the first thing to self-discipline is to set a goal. Setting a goal creates intention and discipline to achieve it. Write down your specific goals, in the present tense, to make them more concrete, and allow you to visualize their achievement.
Give Best Effort
The acknowledged Father of Positive Thinking, Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, author of the classic, "The Power of Positive Thinking", stated many times in his writings and speeches to do all you can do, as best as you can, and then stand. In other words, using your self-discipline, and by giving it your best effort to achieve your goals, you don't need to do anything else. You've done all you can do, and now you await the result via faith and positive thinking.
Self-Discipline, Intention, Positive Thinking
Once practiced, the inter-connectedness of self-discipline, intention, and positive thinking become self-evident. Dr. Wayne Dyer from his book, "The Power of Intention" writes the definition of intention is a strong purpose that's accompanied by a determination to get a desired result. So the combination of your self-discipline and positive thinking to achieve your goal create the intention for it to happen. The wonderful thing about practicing self-discipline is that it builds upon itself; the more you use it, the easier and more frequent it appears.
Take Action
It is not surprising that many people find it difficult to overcome the world's negativity to become self-disciplined and more positive. In "Awaken The Giant Within" by Anthony Robbins, he found that the English language contains 2,086 words that describe negative emotions, while only 1,051 represent the positive. With even our language being lop-sided to the negative, Robbins implores that the only way to practice self-discipline to see positive results is through taking action. Taking action puts your self-discipline into motion toward positive results.
Press On
Perhaps the best advice anyone seeking to boost their self-discipline to become a better positive thinker, is if you fall down, get back up, brush the dust off your clothes, and press on. This metaphorical statement remains as true today as it did 1000 years ago. No one wants to wander aimlessly through an undisciplined, negativity-filled life. Remember, you have the freedom of choice to practice self-discipline, and be a more positive thinking and achiever.
