1. Medicated Shampoos

Though your skin constantly renews itself by flaking of and growing new skin cells, in cases of severe dandruff, this process is taking place much more quickly, and you will notice dry flakes of skin on your scalp. It can also become itchy and uncomfortable. The most common way to treat dandruff is with an anti-dandruff shampoo which will usually contain the chemical antimicrobials zinc pyrithione or selenium sulphide. These chemicals prevent the growth of the fungus Pityrosporum ovale, which is believed to be responsible for dandruff.

3. Internal Causes fo Dandruff

Your dandruff may be a sign of internal problems. If the problem persists despite your attempts to use medicated shampoos or other rinses, you may want to consider examining your general health, make sure you have a balance diet, regular exercise and plenty of rest when you need it. Other internal cause could be related to a hormone imbalance (particularly for women), an allergic reaction to food, or a build up of emotional stress. You may also want to discuss your dandruff problem with your family members, as this may be a hereditary problem.
