Nux vomica goes by several names, such as poison nut, quaker buttons and strychnine. Herbs 2000 says the poison nut tree was brought to Europe from southeast Asia in the 15th century, and the strychnine derived from it was once famous as a poison. Today, nux vomica is a popular homeopathic remedy often used to treat workaholic personalities that suffer from problems that develop from a life of stress and excess. ABC Homeopathy describes it as the pre-eminent remedy for many of the conditions of modern life.

Nausea and Vomiting

According to Homeopathic Educational Services, nux vomica can be a good remedy for treatment of acute nausea and vomiting. It says nux vomica helps alleviate symptoms brought on by over-eating, drinking alcohol or food poisoning. Nux vomica may help if you experience bloating, flatulence, heartburn, diarrhea or constipation.

Hangover and Drugs

Nux vomica is a go-to remedy for people suffering hangovers from too much drinking or digestive problems brought on by therapeutic or recreational drug use. Homeopathic Educational Services says the people who benefit most from nux vomica are those that experience their worst symptoms upon waking in the morning. These people may awake highly irritable and unrefreshed. They may get some relief from warmth, warm applications and warm drinks.

Menstrual Symptoms

It may lessen lower-back pain, and improve your condition if you're feeling chilly, impatient, very irritable or angry. Patients who respond to nux vomica may feel better while they're resting or lying down and feel worse with pressure, even the pressure of clothing.

Colic

Nux vomica may also help infants who cry and cry because of colic. Homeopathic Educational Services says chamomilla is one of the most common treatments for these infants, but nux vomica is another homeopathic remedies for colic.
