There are many reasons a woman may desire to increase her breast size. Whether she feels her breasts are not large enough, needs to correct a development defect or wants to improve her self-image, breast enhancement is a personal decision. While some procedures must be performed in a doctor's office, others can be done in the privacy of the home.

Macrolane

Macrolane is a non-surgical breast enhancement procedure available in many countries. According to the Macrolane website, this breast augmentation procedure requires the injection of a clear gel made from stabilized hyaluronic acid. This solution allows the breasts to be contoured into the shape preferred. The procedure is fairly quick---it takes only about a half hour to do. However, this breast enhancement is not permanent. The gel gradually breaks down in the body, requiring another treatment in about a year.

Surgery

As the Mayo Clinic explains, surgery is a permanent breast enhancement procedure. Breast augmentation requires the use of a sedative and local or general anesthesia. With this surgery, a doctor inserts a silicone or saline implant via the breast fold, the areola or under the arm. Saline implants are empty when inserted and are filled up with the requested amount of fluid. Silicone implants are already full when placed in the body. Expect pain and scarring after the procedure--both of which will fade over time. The patient may not be able to resume normal activity for a few weeks after the surgery. Although this procedure is permanent, implants may need to be removed or replaced years later. This can be due to a rupture, deflation, infection or unhappiness with the results. In fact, the Mayo Clinic states that one out of every four women requires a second breast augmentation procedure within five years of the first surgery.

Exercise

The Times Online website says that exercise can enhance the appearance of the breasts. Exercise is more cost-effective than a medical procedure. In fact, many exercises do not require the purchase of any additional equipment. "Palm Pushes" entail pushing your palms together at breast level. Hold this exercise for five seconds and then relax. Repeat 10 to 12 times. Alternately, grip both of your forearms at shoulder level. Pull outward without letting go of your forearms and repeat this exercise 10 to 12 times. Another method is the "finger lock." Lock your fingers together at shoulder level and pull. Hold this exercise for 5 seconds; do up to 10 repetitions.
