Herbs for Naturopathy

Naturopathy, also known as natural medicine, is the practice of treating illnesses and symptoms with organic or natural herbs and remedies, combined with the belief that given time and proper balance, the body can heal itself. Naturopathy takes a whole-body perspective to medical treatment and medicines. Consumers should always practice caution when using unregulated products. Self-treatment with herbs and herbal remedies should be approached with caution. To be safe, discuss such options with your health-care provider first.

Echinacea

Echinacea has been used for generations to treat a variety of immune system illnesses and symptoms, and is one of the most commonly used herbs for health, according to Naturopathic Health. The herb is believed to contain immune-boosting properties as well as anti-antibacterial components to treat everything from colds to vaginal infections. Either variety of echinacea, the Augustifolia or the Purpurea, provide similar benefits.

Ashwagandha

Also known as Withania somnifera or winter cherry, ashwagandha is commonly found in naturopathic remedies. The herb is most known for its ability to boost energy, as well as treating kidney ailments such as urinary or bladder infections. Ashwagandha is also known to contain anti-inflammatory components that may help to relieve pain and swelling in arthritic joints, according to Naturopathic Health. Ashwagandha is also well known for its ability as a male libido-enhancing herb.

Dandelion

Dandelion is a beautiful flower, but it also contains many beneficial healing properties and is a rich source of vitamins and minerals. Dandelion is often used to relieve digestive issues, from constipation to indigestion, as well as a diuretic. In ancient and modern Chinese medical practices, dandelion is also used to treat blood disorders such as hepatitis and jaundice, according to Naturopathy Digest.

Red Clover

A common naturopathic herb, red clover is another well-known and favorite herb found in natural medicine. The flower contains properties such as oils and isoflavones that improve heart health and circulation, according to Naturopathy Digest. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners often suggest that women use red clover to help ease menopause symptoms such as hot flashes. The herb is also used to treat skin issues such as psoriasis and eczema. Taken as supplements or in a tea formula, red clover may also be used to help treat cold symptoms and dry coughs.
