For men looking to lose weight, it is not always easy to find a solution because there is no "one size fits all" workout to losing pounds--what may work for you may not work for someone else. It is widely known, however, that the key to losing weight is to burn more calories than you consume or burn calories more effectively. In addition to choosing a workout that will have you burn the most amount of calories, consider which workout you would find the most enjoyable. Let's face it: You're more likely to continue your routine if you like what you're doing.

Running

Running is a popular and often-used method for weight loss. Many men choose to run because you do not need to belong to a gym and you don't need anything special besides a pair of running shoes. Most important, running has proved effective. According to the Mayo Clinic, the average 200-lb. man running at a steady state of 8 mph burns 1,229 calories per hour. For many men, time does not allow them to run or workout for an hour. A solution is high-intensity intervals, which last between 20 and 30 minutes. This method is just as effective for fat loss as steady-state running, according to a study published in the January 2010 Journal of Physiology. An example of high-intensity interval training is sprinting for 30 to 60 seconds, followed by fast-paced walking for 30 to 60 seconds.

Rollerblading

Rollerblading is an enjoyable exercise that burns almost the same amount of calories as running--1,138 calories per hour for the same 200-lb. man, according to the Mayo Clinic. While rollerblading primarily works the muscles in the legs, the core muscles are also engaged during the activity to keep your balance. Rollerblading isn't just a form of exercise, but also a mode of transportation.

Resistance Training

Resistance training is a workout familiar to many men, but unlike running and rollerblading, it assists in weight loss in a different way. The amount of calories burned during running and rollerblading far exceed those burned during a weight-lifting workout. However, the body will burn calories more effectively with the increase of lean body mass. Free weights or machines are an effective method of resistance training normally done in a gym. Bodyweight exercise--squats, pull-ups, pushups and lunges, for example--are versatile and can be performed just about anywhere.
