There is an abundance of skin care products and creams on the market. Each promises beautiful, youthful-looking skin in a bottle. The list of ingredients is the key to finding out which creams actually contain products that are good for the delicate skin of the face and neck. The best creams contain products that nourish, protect, firm and moisturize the skin.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is good for the body, inside and out. When applied topically, vitamin C stimulates collagen biosynthesis. Elastin and collagen keep the skin firm. Unfortunately, as the skin ages the elastin and collagen weaken, causing the skin to sag.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, Dr. Phillippe Humbert in a study on In Vivo Collagen Biosynthesis by Topically Applied Vitamin C showed positive results for collagen biosynthesis with topically applied vitamin C. Skin biopsy specimens were collected for clinical results after the vitamin C was applied over a six-month period.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is found in many creams and facial products. It is beneficial in moisturizing and smoothing the skin. It is also a useful ingredient in sunscreens because of its ability to protect the skin against sun damage.

Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10, sometimes called CoQ10, is found in many creams. CoQ10 has shown positive results in reducing fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, according to the Mayo Clinic. It is also good protection against sun damage.

DMAE and Tyrosine

When used together, dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE) and tyrosine "provide both immediate and lasting improvements in the appearance of specific skin-aging parameters with continuous product use," according to a placebo-controlled clinical study to assess the anti-aging effect of the combination of DMAE and tyrosine on facial skin mentioned at the American Academy of Dermatology in 2002.

DHEA

A number of skin care products include dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a hormone the body makes. According to the National Institutes on Health, "Preliminary study suggests the possibility of using DHEA topically as an anti-skin aging agent. Further research is needed to confirm these results."

Copper Peptides

Copper is found in cells and is a trace element. Peptides are small protein fragments. When copper peptides are applied to the skin, they stimulate collagen production and may enhance antioxidant action, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Kinetin

Kinetin is a popular ingredient in skin care creams. It is a plant growth factor and may improve wrinkles and even skin tone, according to the Mayo Clinic. It is unknown how it works, but it may reduce wrinkles by stimulating collagen production and moisturizing the skin.

Green Tea

Green, black and oolong teas are anti-inflammatory and are antioxidants. Teas are commonly found in wrinkle creams and are good for the skin.
