If you are uncomfortable with your appearance in summer clothes, chances are it's because of extra weight around your tummy. Whether you just want to lose a few pounds or lose a significant amount of weight, getting a flat tummy may be easier than you think. Make a few easy changes to your lifestyle and you can have a tummy to be proud of.

Take a Walk

For many, a brisk walk outside is just a pleasant way to relax, but don't underestimate the powerful effect walking can have on weight loss. According to the American Council on Exercise, daily walking is an effective weight management tool because it burns extra calories and stimulates your metabolism.

Drink Before You Eat

Water is a potent natural appetite suppressant. By drinking one glass of water before each meal, you'll feel satisfied from less food than you normally eat. When you drink water at the first signs of hunger, you prevent yourself from misinterpreting thirst as hunger, which is a common reason for overindulgence. By consuming 2 liters of water per day, you will also prevent water retention, which can cause bloating around the midsection, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Don't Skip your Veggies

Slimming down could be as simple as eating all your veggies. Vegetables, especially leafy greens are low in calories and high in vitamins, minerals and fiber. Fiber is especially important for a trim stomach because it helps curb hunger. Fiber can slow down your body's digestion of other nutrients such as carbohydrates and help eliminate cravings due to irregular blood sugar.

Snack Healthy and Often

A lean stomach doesn't mean going hungry. Successful dieters will have a small healthy snack at the first signs of hunger. When you go too long without eating, you are paving the way for cravings and overeating. The hungrier you become, the more your body craves calorie-dense sweets and fats. A small snack such as a piece of fruit or yogurt will tide you over until mealtime and prevent you from making bad decisions.
