The OneTouch Ultra 2 is a home blood glucose monitor that provides results in five seconds. It requires only a small drop of blood. Patients may use this monitor to test on alternative sites such as the forearm or palm, instead of pricking fingertips multiple times a day. Using the OneTouch Ultra 2 is simple.
Step 1
Insert a test strip into the monitor by holding the strip with the contact bars facing upward, going into the monitor first. The monitor will automatically turn on when the strip is inserted properly.
Step 2
Locate the test strip code on the vial. Match the strip code on the vial with the code appearing on the monitor screen the first time it is turned on. If the code doesn't match, use the arrows on the meter to find the correct code, then press "OK." Once coded, the meter is ready for use.
Step 3
Insert a lancet into the sampler. To do this, remove the end cap from the sampler and push the lancet into the sampler until it's secure. Twist the end of the lancet to reveal the needle. Place the end cap back onto the sampler and cock it by pulling back on the lever on the side of the sampler.
Step 4
Clean the test site with an alcohol swab. Fingertips, the forearm and the palm are good choices for testing. Hold the prepared sampler to the test site and press the release button to prick the skin and expose a blood drop.
Step 5
Hold the blood drop to the tip of the test strip until the meter has received the amount of blood needed for the test. A confirmation will appear on the screen, followed by a countdown. Blood sugar results will display within five seconds.
Step 6
Remove the test strip by pulling it straight out of the meter. Discard it. Replace the lancet in the sampler in preparation for the next test. The meter will automatically turn off.
