Pores are tiny openings in your skin that provide a place for hair to grow and for oil to be released onto your skin's surface. If oil becomes clogged in the pores, they can enlarge and become noticeable. The area underneath may also become inflamed, resulting in acne. Some skin care products and cleansers designed to cleanse and tighten pores have harsh chemicals that dry out your skin. You can use items in your kitchen instead to effectively clean your pores.
Steaming
Step 1
Heat a saucepan of water to boiling on the stove.
Step 2
Remove the saucepan from the stove.
Step 3
Place a towel over the back of your head and bend down so that your face is directly above the pot of water. The towel will form a tent to direct the steam to your face.
Step 4
Steam your face for five minutes before rinsing it with cool water. Steaming your face opens your pores and cleanses them.
Exfoliating
Step 1
Combine 2 tsp. of oatmeal with 1 tsp. of baking soda.
Step 2
Add water to the mixture until a thick paste forms. You will need approximately 2 tsp. of water.
Step 3
Rub the mixture onto your face in circular motions for one minute.
Step 4
Rinse your face with cool water. The oatmeal and baking soda slough off dead skin cells that clog your pores.
Toner
Step 1
Combine 3 tsp. of lemon juice and ½ cup of rubbing alcohol in a bowl.
Step 2
Slice one lime in half and use a juicer to extract the juice of each half.
Step 3
Add the lime juice to the bowl and mix the ingredients thoroughly.
Step 4
Pour the mixture into a jar. Use a cotton ball to wipe it over your skin after cleansing to remove oils and tighten your pores.
Tips and Warnings
- You can add herbs to a pot of boiling water to nourish your skin and reduce inflammation. Try adding lavender, mint or chamomile. Store your jar of toner in the refrigerator for future use.
