6 Ways to Identify Parathyroid Gland Disorders

1. Fatigue

Fatigue is one of the chief symptoms used to identify parathyroid gland disorders. Increased drowsiness during the day can be the result of any number of disorders, but when coupled with other classic parathyroid gland disorder symptoms, fatigue is one of the first, best indicators that something is wrong.

2. Increased Nervousness

Anxiety and nervousness are often symptoms of parathyroid gland disorders. General nervousness or situational anxiety do not necessarily indicate a parathyroid gland disorder. However, constant anxiety that appears to have no source should be a cause for concern. Speak to a doctor about elevated, persistent anxiety and any potential link to parathyroid gland disorder.

3. High Blood Pressure and Heart Related Symptoms

Elevated blood pressure is one of the most common symptoms of parathyroid gland disorders. Over 75 percent of all sufferers have been found to exhibit high blood pressure. This problem can be magnified by the presence of other problems like heart disease or a blood disorder like anemia. Additional symptoms such as palpitations, arrhythmia or elevated heart rates are less prevalent but have been observed.

4. Kidney Stones

Kidney stones are often the result of elevated calcium in our systems. Since parathyroid gland disorders often result from the body's overproduction of calcium, kidney stones are typically a very good indicator of the presence of a gland disorder. Patients are almost always screened for parathyroid gland disorders when being treated for kidney stones.

5. Acid Reflux Disease

Acid reflux disease is a disorder unto itself, but it has been shown to be a common symptom in those who suffer from parathyroid gland disorders. In fact, as many as one-half of all parathyroid disorder patients report acid reflux symptoms.
