1. Treat the Underlying Illness or Condition

Treating the underlying cause of your decreased appetite is essential. Once you have been diagnosed with thyroid disease, depression, cancer or even pregnancy, there are steps you can take to get your condition under control so that your appetite will increase. Some of the treatments may be medical in nature, such as taking medication to regulate your thyroid function. If your decreased appetite is the result of a pregnancy rather than a medical illness, you may have a limited set of options.
