Halitosis, or bad breath, can be traced to several things, such as poor digestion from food, dental hygiene or eating foods that have a negative effect on breath. Notice what foods or combinations of foods results in bad breath. Eating foods that are very sulfurous, such as onions, garlic or hard-boiled eggs, will naturally create very strong breath for many people. There are several types of foods, herbs and teas that can help you reduce bad breath.
Chew Parsley
Chew on parsley at the end of your meal. This is often served as a garnish at restaurants. Nibbling on half a teaspoon can help clear bad breath.
If you do not mind the sugar, eat a small amount of candied ginger, which is a digestive. You could also slice fresh ginger root, chew on it and discard it. Long recognized as a digestive aid, ginger root is made into herbal tea, too, and sipping it might also help.
Fennel Seed
Fennel seeds are very effective in reducing bad breath; just thoroughly chew a few. Be aware that they have phytoestrogens and consuming three or four fennel seeds will do the trick. Fennel is often used in "natural" toothpastes and mouth washes.
Drink Peppermint or Spearmint Teas
Consuming any kind of mint is a good way to reduce bad breath. Steep 2 tbsp. of dried peppermint or spearmint leaves in a cup of boiling water to make a digestive tea. Of course, peppermint and spearmint as used in chewing gum, breath mints and hard candies that seem to instantly freshen breath. To skip the sugar, drink teas after meals.
