Though Las Vegas is synonymous with gambling and nightlife, travelers may not know that there is plenty for children to do as well. Las Vegas' warm, dry climate makes it perfect for outdoor activities and recreation, including hiking and swimming. Children can also partake in arcade games at many casinos, somewhat mirroring the gambling adults go there to do.

Swimming

Virtually all Las Vegas hotels have pools for guest use. Many of them have elaborate waterfalls and water slides that are exceptionally kid-friendly. Poolside entertainment in the form of music, games and other activities is also readily available. Since the climate is hot and dry, kids will undoubtedly want to participate in an activity that will cool them off. Also the Colorado River is nearby, with locations where kids can jump right in.

Sightseeing

The Hoover Dam is just a short drive from Las Vegas. Parents can rent a car and take their kids to see this historic landmark. Tours run daily so that children can be educated on the significance of the dam.

Hiking

Just outside Las Vegas are plenty of opportunities for hiking to get the kids some great exercise. The views are absolutely breathtaking from places such as Frenchmen Mountain. Websites also note which hikes are suitable for children and which might be too challenging, so that families can choose the most appropriate routes.

Hotels

Just exploring the hotels on the Las Vegas Strip would be extremely entertaining for parents and children. Each hotel has its own distinct personality and attributes to offer visitors. For example, you can take your kids to New York, NY, and Paris without ever having to leave the Strip. These hotels boast typical landmarks associated with each location, such as the Statue of Liberty and a mini Eiffel Tower.

Shows

Las Vegas has the most amazing offering of shows at its hotels. From circuses to concerts, dinner theaters to comedy shows, there is absolutely something for everyone. Your concierge will be able to determine which shows are kid-friendly, and some offer complimentary tickets to shows in your hotel as a promotion.
