Known as the city that never sleeps, you can assume that New York City has more activities and attractions than you will have time or energy to do. Active guests focused on health and wellness can fill their day with all New York City has to offer.
Sailing
What better way to see the waters of New York City than by sailboat? There are several companies in New York City that send tall ships out on daily voyages around the island of Manhattan. While on these sails, which are family friendly, you can learn to tie knots, take the wheel or simply sit back and take in the views of the New York City skyline.
Parks
While Central Park may be the most famous park in the city, there are many more parks that offer an abundance of activities. Consider stopping by Willowbrook Park on Staten Island, which features fishing, baseball fields, horseshoe pits, ice skating, kite flying, archery and even a carousel. The Victorian carousel has hand painted horses. Willowbrook Park is handicap accessible and is open daily.
Eco Tours
Jump on an eco-friendly water taxi and head out to the Heron Islands in New York Harbor. Out on these islands, you will see large herons in their natural habitat. While out on the tour, you can also see Ellis Island and the Statute of Liberty. This trip takes about 90 minutes and goes in the evenings around sunset, when the herons are most active.
Living In History
Out on Staten Island, visitors will find the historic town of Richmond. Located on 100 acres, this quaint village features 27 historic buildings, a park and a museum. The museum covers 300 years of life on Staten Island. To promote the historic atmosphere, staff members and demonstrators wander around in period costumes and interact with visitors.
Row Boats
Squeeze in a little physical activity to your day by heading over to Central Park and renting a rowboat. This adventure will have you exploring marshy areas of the park that are filled with swans, ducks, frogs and turtles. Rowboats can carry up to five people, so this is a perfect activity for the family. Other exciting activities in Central Park include gondola rides on authentic Venetian gondolas, sailing and ice skating.
