Seattle and the area around Puget Sound provides vast choices in what to do on a date. The city boasts several hundred parks and Lake Union. The community lifestyle is active and healthy. Farmers markets, kayaking, walking trails, and even parasailing are just some of the options available in and around Seattle.

Lake Union

Lake Union Park is a 12-acre piece of land dedicated to enjoying the outdoor life in an urban area. The park is located on the south side of Lake Union at 860 Terry Avenue North. You can rent a kayak and enjoy the peace of gliding through the water. Gas Works Park is located on the north shore of Lake Union. It is a popular spot for flying kites and provides opportunity for photography enthusiasts.

Pike's Place

The quintessential to-do in Seattle is the Pike's Place Market on Pike's Street and 1st Avenue. It is a semi-open air farmers market that boasts fresh seafood, fresh organic produce, fresh-picked flowers and many vendors. Thought to be somewhat of a tourist trap, the locals still go to the market to pick up some of the best produce available. Along Pike's Street, you can discover bistros, shops and sellers that make Seattle a Northwest gem.

Rock Climbing

It may be rainy in the Northwest, but that won't stop anyone here from getting outside even if it means bringing the outside indoors. Indoor rock climbing is popular and climbing walls can be found from Bellingham to Olympia. The REI Flagship Store in Seattle has an indoor wall four-stories high and all the gear you will need is provided there. The store is located at 222 Yale Avenue North. If you want the real thing, head east towards the North Bend area. Exits 38 and 32 off of Interstate 90 have some of the Washington's best climbing areas known as Deception Crags.

Point Defiance

A little further south of Seattle in Tacoma is Point Defiance Park. It is the second largest park inside city limits in the United States. The park is located at 5400 North Pearl Street on a peninsula that juts into Puget Sound. Five Mile Drive winds its way through the 702-acre park and you can walk or run on the paved drive or on the many trails that wind in and out of the rain forest landscape. Point Defiance has a zoo, flower gardens and activities including tennis, kayaking and parasailing.

Puget Sound Area

Other activities available around Seattle and the Puget Sound area are seasonal clam digging, whale watching, fishing and sailing. Digging for clams requires a license and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife posts when the beaches are open for digging. Whale watching season runs April through November. The popular spot for whale watching is the San Juan Islands and a boat can be chartered from Seattle for the day.
